Building an index has got to be the most tedious chor in the world for a writer. That's why I always put it off. Last week, nearly two months after turning in the rest of the manuscript for my next book, I started working on the index. Here's my high-tech approach: I go through a printout of the manuscript, highlight keywords, and then hit the computer, typing in the keywords and corresponding page numbers. I got halfway through the typing on Saturday, and I'm trying to finish the task today. But I thought it was time for a break. So, to the blog I turn.
How about those Indiana Hoosiers? Under Bobby Knight, I couldn't stand Indiana basketball. But you've gotta love Mike Davis and the way he speaks out about his Christian faith. I thought it was cool, after the Hoosiers' victory Saturday over the Oklahoma Sooners, the way Davis thanked God for allowing him to "find favor" and explained that he never holds a practice on Sunday so that he and his players can attend church. Even when the Sunday is the day before the big NCAA Championship game, the biggest game of Davis's career, the coach sticks to his beliefs. That is good news to hear on the night before Easter.
