Colds suck This is Homecoming Week, a busy time of year for people like me, and not a good time to come down with a cold. This nagging crud showed up around Wednesday, and even though I'm feeling better today than I did yesterday (thanks to mega-hits of vitamin C, a good, long night's sleep, and a yummy home-cooked breakfast this morning), I'm going to skip this afternoon's big Homecoming game. It's sunny outside and great football weather, but there's a chill in the air and a stout breeze, and I don't want to take any chances.
So instead, I'll keep my wimpy self at home, hanky in hand and nested in blankets on the sofa, watching Game 3 of the Cardinals-Astros series, and maybe some college football before that 3 p.m. CDT game.
I might also do some reading. I've started a couple of books, but have been too distracted with work, etc., to focus on either of them. I'm halfway through Scott McKnight's The Jesus Creed, an interesting study on the Great Commandment (to love God and others) with insights into the Judaism of Jesus' day (not to be confused with this Jesus Creed). And then last week, when Donald Miller's new book, Searching for God Knows What, arrived in the mail, I dug into the first couple of chapters. Miller's last book, Blue Like Jazz, was a big hit among the emerging church set, and a fun book for me to review. This new book seems even more promising.
