But I guess he's okay with Jar-Jar bloggedy blog was shocked -- shocked! -- to learn of Coop's belief that George Lucas should have offed C-3PO a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away. Writes Coop: "That guy added nothing to the first three movies or the second three. Kill him off and edit him out of Episode 4-6. I would buy the new versions."
I strongly disagree. C-3PO was the hero of Return of the Jedi. Remember? He was able to communicate with all those cuddly koala-bear like creatures who bowed down in obeisance to him. C-3PO saved the rebellion, for cryin' out loud. What would Return... have been like without C-3PO? Besides, R2D2 and C-3PO are based on a "buddy" archetype that has been proven throughout cinematic and literary history. They're the Star Wars version of Abbott and Costello, Laurel and Hardy, Lucy and Ethel, Mel Gibson and Danny Glover. George Lucas flipped back into the pages of pop culture and found something that works.
R2D2 and C-3PO are a pair. You can't split them up.
