In remembrance Today is Veterans' Day in the United States and Remembrance Day in Canada. Remerber those who have fought for the freedoms we have today. Here's a powerful photo essay to help you out.
The photo below is of my father and his crew in Walla Walla, Washington, in October 1944. (Dad is the tall guy on the left, with the pencil mustache.)
Dad and the rest of the crew headed out to England to fly missions over Europe in a B-24 -- the "Liberator" -- during the latter days of World War II. Dad was a gunner. Their plane got shot down, dad got a flack wound across his chest, and he spend some time in a German POW camp. That's about all I know about his tour of duty with the Army Air Corps. He didn't talk about it much. But he was proud to have served, I do know that. And I'm proud of him for having served.
