Bruce Sutter makes the hall It was lucky number 13 for split-finger specialist and former St. Louis Cardinal reliever Bruce Sutter, who was voted into the Baseball Hall of Fame yesterday. He's only the fourth relief pitcher to make it. Sutter won the final game of the St. Louis Cardinals' last World Series championship way back in 1982. He was a fixture for the Cardinals during the Whiteyball era and is credited with pioneering the split-finger fastball.
Personally, I've never been a huge Bruce Sutter fan. But he was instrumental for the Cardinals in the early '80s, and since I'm a die-hard Redbirds fan, how can I not be happy for the guy?
This was the 13th time Sutter was on the ballot. Pete Rose received 10 write-in votes, even though he's ineligible for the Hall.
