Now playing: Black Flag Six Pack EP So I was checking out Rudy Carrasco's Urban Onramps when I see this post calling me out to set straight some misinformation about a punk song. (The lyrics are to Black Flag's "TV Party" but are incorrectly identified as lyrics for "Six Pack." Then I log on to New on eMusic to see the latest. Lo and behold, eMusic now has the three-song Six Pack EP. It seemd obvious to me that a Greater Power was leading me to procure these tunes. Three quick downloads later, and I'm banging my head to three great early proto-hardcore punk tunes, about five minutes in all. The best of the bunch, to me, is "American Waste."
The world's got some plans for me Courthouse, jails and factories Black and whites on the street For me for me I see my place in American waste
eMusic's review of the EP:
Another pre-Damaged EP release, Six Pack is just intense as Nervous Breakdown or Jealous Again. Its three tracks represent a band that was not interested in filler, using music to construct an answer to the bitterness and rage that permeated the lives of the disaffected. Also notable for yet another of many lineup changes that would happen within the band, this incarnation of the band is considered by some to be their most underrated. While largely overshadowed over the years by the band's other vocalists, new member Dez Cadena delivers with the same power as successor Henry Rollins and blind rage as predecessor Keith Morris. An important step for one of the best bands to emerge from the L.A. hardcore scene.
