Journals and blogs: one and the same? Weblog Wannabe ponders, on a slow blogging day, whether her blogging avocation began while she was an online diarist, chronicling her life on Diaryland, or when she began blogging in earnest. And what's the difference between online diaries, journals, weblogs and blogs? Is there a difference, for that matter? Perhaps she's really an online haikuist?
Not that she (or anyone) asked for it, but here's my take on it. The blog is a hybrid of the journal and/or diary and the more traditional weblog. A weblog, back in the day, was essentially a newsy listing of announcements and events. Most blogs mix the newsy with the personal and let readers see the viewpoints and the biases of the author.
