Take The Lent Challenge (or come up with your own) Yes, it's reminiscent of the old Pepsi Challenge marketing ploy (McSweeney's take ). But Rob Williams has come up with a good idea for Lent. It's almost as good as a friend of mine -- a good Catholic boy, not particularly spiritual to most people's way of thinking -- who devotes the 40 days to prayer for 40 friends, a friend a day (my day is March 17).
Rob's Lent Challenge, issued recently to several fellow bloggers and gaining traction in the blogosphere, is this: read and reflect upon all four Gospels (that's Matthew, Mark, Luke and John) during Lent, which begins tomorrow. That's four books in 40 days -- at a rate of 2 or 3 chapters a day.
I'm going to pass on Rob's challenge this year, for two reasons: 1.) I can't read that much gospel in one sitting and adequately reflect on what I've read, and 2.) I've already got a plan.
Here's my Lent Challenge: to daily read, and strive to live by, Romans 12 (especially verse 18).
