Let's see: Which was first, Jaguar advertising its luxury cars to the tune of the Clash's "London Calling," or Carnival Cruise Lines pushing three-day packages while Iggy sang "Lust for Life" in the background?
Then Miller Beer used Devo's "Freedom of Choice" in a clever but short-lived TV spot. The Ramones' "Blitzkrieg Bop" has been used to sell cars, soda pop and a cell phone service. Another Clash tune -- "Should I Stay or Should I Go?" -- serves as the soundtrack for yet another car commercial, and Cingular is using a cover of Blondie's "Hanging on the Telephone."
All great punk tunes live on, it seems, in the soundtrack of TV ads.
