According to Keith, who apparently has had the pleasure of seeing these Monkeys live, the Monkeys are really (two, two) two groups in one. "There’s the first group, the precocious, flesh and blood teenagers from Sheffield who shoved a sizable rock-n’-roll boot into the collective asses of everyone at Spectrum last night. They’re the ones who look like they took a wrong (or very right) turn on the way to the high school talent show. The ones with the prenatural cool and the coy, ever so pogo-able chops."
The Monkeys' mercurial rise to fame is a little disconcerting (though not as disconcerting as hearing that they've sold more records than the Clash). As Pw/oI's Keith notes, "When you’re eighteen years old and your first ever record has just been called the fifth best British album of all time, you’ve got nowhere to go but down."
Let's hope they don't crash and burn. These kids do know how to rock. See for yourself, and judge for yourself.
