David Hopkins -- or is it now "the famous David Hopkins"? -- gets the Dallas Observer's nod for Best Local Comic Book Writer. The man is on fire. The DO gives David special props for Emily Edison, the tale of "a teenage super-heroine geared toward an all-ages audience," and adds: "It'd be kinda creepy that Hopkins could write a 15-year-old girl so well if he weren't such a swell guy." Both "swell" and "creepy." Now that's a combination. Congratulations, David!
Speaking of new music (yesterday's post), I'm happy to report that soon, very soon, the new album from The Hold Steady will be out. It's called Boys and Girls in America. Stream tunes from it at their MySpace site, or grab the mp3 for "Chips Ahoy" right here: The Hold Steady-Chips Ahoy.mp3.
While surfing the Hold Steady's MySpace site, I discovered that the genius of the minimalist short story, Raymond Carver, has a MySpace site. I thought he was dead.
