The Word un-Perfect. Are there any WordPerfect experts out there who can help me out of a quagmire? About two weeks ago, the computer people where I work "fixed" my machine to make it more compatible with a Windows NT system upgrade. After the fix, I can't even open WordPerfect 8. I get the dreaded Dr. Watson error. This is really beginning to tick me off, because WordPerfect is the program I and the other flacks in my office use to crank out news releases. As a writing software, it's far superior to the code-plagued Microsoft Word. But on our Microsoft-happy campus, WordPerfect is no longer supported. The best our helpdesk folks could do is uninstall WordPerfect 8, then reinstall it. But the result was the same.
So I toil away like a Roman orchard slave in this Microsoft environment, trying to write and revise with Word, and trying to convert WordPerfect documents to Word results in a bunch of crappy coding littering my stellar prose: equal signs for apostrophes, capital A's for open quotes, capital S's for closed quotes, and on and on.
Does anyone have a solution? Anybody? Anywhere? If so, please send me an e-mail.
One of the truths that I have come to grips with while serving in a local church is that creative people and great ideas are in short supply. I am not just talking about people who are artistic but people who have fresh ideas, new insights and like blazing trails.
