"Ready Steady Go," by Generation X
Led by a young Billy Idol, Generation X -- yes, Virginia, there was a Generation X long before Douglas Coupland allegedly coined the term -- sang about being in love with the Beatles, the Stones and Bobby Dylan in "Ready Steady Go." You can hear Idol's trademark snotty-kid snarl in this upbeat pop-punk paean to the roots of rock and roll. Rather that trashing the icons of '60s rock, "Ready Steady Go" celebrates their influence -- "because I'm in love with rock'n'roll."
