Punk Rock Countdown: No. 29 "I Don't Wanna Walk Around With You," by The Ramones Every song from the Ramones' 1977 debut album was a statement of punk rock minimalism. The Ramones boiled everything down to its essence: a couple of power chords (three at the most), a pounding rhythm section, the best crash cymbal this side of "76 Trombones," and two-minute tunes with uncomplicated lyrics. Ramones minimalism expressed the raw bones of the human ego; many of their songs were either about "I wanna" (sniff glue, be your boyfriend, be sedated, etc.) or "I don't wanna" (go down to the basement, grow up, walk around with you, etc.) If I had to describe the Ramones sound to an alien culture, and I could only pick one song, I think this is the one I would choose. 1-2-3-4!
