WWJA: Whom Would Jesus Assassinate?
What in the world is going on? Pat Robertson, the head of the so-called Christian Broadcasting Network, is advocating that the United States assassinate Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez. Robertson apparently proclaimed this during a broadcast of his network's "Christian" TV program, the 700 Club. Robertson apparently thinks taking out Chavez will keep Venezuela from becoming "a launching pad for communist infiltration and Muslim extremism."

Now I know that Chavez isn't our country's idea of the ideal third-world despot. But what in the hell is happening when someone so influential in Christian circles (yes, evangelical and conservative Christian circles, and highly politicized ones at that) advocates murder?

"We have the ability to take him out, and I think the time has come that we exercise that ability," Robertson said Monday on the Christian Broadcast Network's "The 700 Club."

"We don't need another $200 billion war to get rid of one, you know, strong-arm dictator," he continued. "It's a whole lot easier to have some of the covert operatives do the job and then get it over with."

Jesus wept.
