Super Bowl XL: subpar ads, Stone Age rock "What a drag it is getting old," Mick Jagger sang -- eons ago it now seems -- in "Mother's Little Helper." But during the halftime show of last night's Super Bowl, Mick wasn't dragging much. I hope I can be as spry at that age.
Having said that, though, I have to conclude that the halftime show was kind of a downer. There's just something frightening about seeing geezers up on stage trying to rock and roll. Mick held his own, but Keith Richards stumbled like a doddering old coot with Alzheimers. (Of course, he's been doing that for some 30 years now, and still hitting most of the notes, so who am I to judge.)
As for the ads, this year's crop was pretty weak. The Bud Light spots were clever as usual, and the Budweiser clydesdale ad touch a heartstring. The funniest, in my opinion, was the FedEx ad with the cavemen. But most were pretty forgettable. Adrants has the play-by-play of last night's commercials, which you can catch all over again at Google Video or, if you want to vote, USA Today's Ad Meter.
