Holy Weblog! cashes it in The selfish side of me wishes it weren't so, but M.J. Buxton of Holy Weblog! has announced that she is retiring from the blogging business. No hiatus, no extended leave -- none of that nonsense. No, she's officially calling it quits.
So, good for M.J. It's never a bad idea to leave when you're at the top of your game, and despite M.J.'s comments to the contrary, Holy Weblog! has remained one of the best, most entertaining sources of spiritual news around. I've always appreciated M.J.'s clever headlines and knack for finding the oddest of oddities in from the odd, odd world of religion. HW has been my favorite spiritual blog ever since I got into this game some four years ago. I'm going to miss it. But I can understand where M.J. is coming from when she writes:
The passion I had for "the good, the bad and the quirky" is now devoted to more serious reading and study about Christ, Christian practice and how to implement faith in my world. I'm still not sure where I fit in the neat, tidy labeling of the media -- an ex-Catholic member of an evangelical church who avoids the "evangelical" label, a blue-state NPR listener and Midwestern comma cop who is becoming increasingly pro-life, antiwar and generally angry about the state of the world -- and I kind of like the idea of having a place where I can figure that out. But that's no guarantee of what's next for this space.
In a world without guarantees, HW was always a source of enjoyment and occasional enlightenment.
Go with God, M.J. As sloppy as I am with housekeeping, you'll probably stay on this blogroll for some time, so I and visitors will have a visual reminder of one of the best sites on spirituality in the blogosphere.
