"Summertime Blues" podcast and poll I know I've already included one version of "Summertime Blues" in a recent podcast celebrating the onset of summer. But this tune is such a classic it should be played again and again, especially on a hot midsummer's day like today. That's why I'm offering your seven versions of this classic tune -- the original and six classic covers.
"Summertime Blues" is one of the best rock songs of all time. Anyone who's ever wanted to stick it to the man can relate to the message of this song. Anyone who's ever worked a sweaty, low-wage summer job just to earn a buck to have a good time can relate. The message is universal. That's why "Summertime Blues" has been acidified, country-fried, garageinated and punkitated in its many iterations since the original rockabilly original by Eddie Cochran. For 48 years now, rockers have echoed Eddie's lament -- that "there ain't no cure for the summertime blues" -- and it's a lament that resonates today.
Have a listen to these seven takes, then come back here to vote for your favorite version of "Summertime Blues."
