Punk homage to the Who Tesco, of 100 Records fame, is renowned for posting great reviews and tracks of purebred punk albums. But lately, he's been sharing his love of some non-punk, such as U2 (but just early U2) and that quintessential prog-rock outfit, Yes. They've been great posts, one and all, but his coup de grace came on Friday when he posted this about the Who:
Look, I'm sorry, this is just one of those bands I've never been able to let go of. I realize there are some hokey tunes by these guys but you can't deny songs like Baba O'Riley, The Real Me (Entwistle's bass masterpeice) and Won't Get Fooled Again. More...
I maintain that the Who were among the original punks, and as influential on the Sex Pistols, et. al., as the Stooges. After all, they destroyed the set on prime time TV (YouTube video) after performing "My Generation" on the Smothers Brothers variety show. Glad to see Tesco show 'em some love. Now, if he'd just let ALa post something about Queen.
