Friday Five: must-hear music podcasts I'm taking a short break from the countdown of 100 albums that changed my life -- but I'm not taking a break from lists. Stealing an idea from Nat, who listed 13 terrific podcasts in her Thursday Thirteen a week and a day ago. Only I'm sticking to five, and they're all part of the podomatic podcasting network.
And they are:
Top 5 on Friday, the weekly podcast from Nat herself. I've got some serious podlust going for this rock'n'roll babe's musical tastes, because they're so close to my own. She stuck her hand inside my cranium. Check out today's cast of selections from Nat's top five debut albums, and you'll know what I mean.
It's a Mod, Mod World, Mod Rob's weekly celebration of all things mod and modish, baby. Mr. Suave, the man behind the podcast, searches high and low for mod and mod-influenced music -- and finds it, sometimes in the unlikeliest of places. Check out MySpace Becomes ModSpace, his podcast of modern mod from that place where every band has a website.
Rock'n'roll pod. A furious blitz of hot hot punk-garage heat by this dude in Portugal. With tight, seven-song sets, this podcast rarely tops 20 minutes. It's quick, it's harsh, it's rock'n'roll meat -- no filler.
Regresso Radio, a terrific mix of punk and new wave, old and new. Alas, RR is now archive-only. (The last show was posted July 18.) But the old shows are still on his site. Go download them now, before we lose them forever.
WGPR, podcast radio with a different slant every day of the week. Indie on Monday, hardcore and oi on Tuesday, ska on Wednesday, '80s punk on Thursday, MySpace discoveries on Friday, old-school punk on Saturday, and "Warped Generation" on Sunday. One of the hardest working podcasts in the business.
