Variation on a music meme: 10 random 'mix' tunes Musing's Musing offers this Friday random 10 exercise with these simple rules: "Take out your iPod or other musical device. Put it in 'random' mode. Hit 'play.' Write down the first ten tracks that come up."
But I don't own an iPod, and my two portable mp3 players aren't handy. So instead I decided to modify the game a bit. Instead, I opened Winamp, selected one song, and then selected the MusicMixer plugin, which uses an algorythm to define "relationships between sets of music based on acoustic traits and characteristics." In other words, if you pick a song, the MusicMixer picks 19 others that supposedly go with it.
So, with my Winamp set on "shuffle." here are the first 10 tunes to play, beginning with the one song I selected, and the next nine picked by the wonders of MusicMixer technology.
Tom Waits - Bottom of the World
Jimi Hendrix - Red House
Luther Wright and the Wrongs - Run Like Hell (Pink Floyd cover)
Bauhaus - Terror Couple Kill Colonel
Beach Boys - California Girls
Johnny Cash - God's Gonna Cut You Down
Bob Seger - Rock and Roll Never Forgets
Pink Floyd - Time
The Beatles - Come Together
Janis Joplin - Me and Bobby McGee
Steve Miller Band - Dance, Dance, Dance
(This list goes to 11.)
I'm not sure just how accurate the MusicMixer is in putting together tunes. But other than the Bauhaus and Pink Floyd tunes, I think the rest went together pretty well.
